This is a commonly used selection of Bible verses, for salvation.

Explaining why you need to change
All have sinned in Gods sight, the only question you have to answer on judgement day is "Did you accept the contractual offer of Jesus, so that He has freely forgiven you of your sins, murder rape thefts lies etc". Don't wait until you are a "good person" nobody is in God's sight, come dirty and get cleaned up.

You put Jesus on the Cross for your sins because He wanted to be able to clear all your sins, so He could rejoice with you in heaven. Somebody has to pay!

So Jesus was looking ahead to you, your family, your children and great grandchildren, and further. So He took all those future sins and paid for them because the "world" did such a terrible crime in crucifying Jesus, God's Son, who is more valuable loved and treasured by God than anyone else, since He is part of God. that the "world" has to accept that He can do as He pleases and clear the sins of anyone who fully accepts Jesus as Lord, and holds to it. Out of respect for God avoid those things He doesn't like, repent when you fail and forgiveness of your sins will be updated.

Those who do not accept Jesus as Lord have in effect refused God's grace, rejected Jesus and will have to pay for their own sins under the Law (the Ten Commandments) which are so strict that you cannot pay. Your good deeds, charity, good behaviour, and vaguely praying to a "god" somewhere can never be enough.

Guidance.
These verses are used for people considering making a commitment. There are many more, but as long as you cover the main points, you can learn more as you read the scriptures. Just about every chapter in the New Testament gives more insight into Gods love and grace towards you. Also the Old Testament has much about Gods love, but there is also much about the Law which doesn't apply to Christians, but should be read as guidance to God's attitudes.
This is only a starting point, you need to follow it up with reading the Bible, prayer, and fellowship with others at some place where you can get good teaching, on what the Bible actually says and how it applies to you. Always check for yourself that the teaching aligns with the Bible. Avoid those churches that have a set service and a 5 minute Text of the Day type culture, you will not get enough teaching there in your lifetime. It is a big commitment, but with big gains in a better lifestyle which will be more satisfying for you. Reading the New Testament will show you many faults that you have, but Jesus will help you to overcome the problems, so don't be discouraged. Also read Genesis as true, Jesus believed it and quoted from it. Genesis gives the basis for sin, prophesy and redemption.
If you are the first in a family, a marriage or partnership tread carefully, as it may take a long time for others to warm to the idea. But the benefits are eternal, and the disaster/shame of not befriending God in this life is also eternal, because you are an eternal being, and God wants friends, not enemies. Do not try to push your new belief onto anyone, it just gets their hostility up, let them see a change in you and if they like it they will follow.

There is a warning not to pray for salvation if you are just doing it because you have been told that "God has a wonderful plan for your life". He is not going to make it a bed of roses, but He will help you get off drugs, alcohol, bad life-style, sometimes instantly if you choose to stop, and sometimes give healings, also sometimes instantly, but often not, but I am still hoping. The statistics are that 80% will fall away because they don't take it seriously, having come with the wrong expectations, and then "doing their own thing" and ignoring God. You will lose friends who are religious evolutionists or atheists just because your presence will remind them that there is a God they must account to, because it destabilises their own belief. There are other beliefs that are against the Christian belief for the same reasons, as many will not accept that there was a beginning, or will be an end, or a life after this one, that there is no reincarnation, or that God has a Son, or that the Messiah will come to His chosen people. Some will want to kill you just because you changed your belief, or just because you are a Christian, mainly depending which country you are in. Also your employer may find the truth incompatible with their belief, or business "ethics". Even some Christians are so convinced that healings etc are not for today that they argue vehemently against what the Bible states, and often argue in favour of evolution. Jesus warned you that in the world you will have tribulation, ( John 16 v33 KJV enter this in the Blue Bible below, tribulation is rendered as trouble in the NIV.) but He has overcome the world, which doesn't necessarily help us here, as we have to subdue our part of it, for Jesus, in some countries fight for your life, and possibly loose it.

Copy this web address into Notepad and when you finish here, download the book and read it to make sure you have the right reasons. If you accept Christ then fall away because you feel that Jesus has not brought you the happiness or benefits you were lead to believe, you may not be able to return, depending how close to rejection of Jesus you have come. The eternal stakes are very high!

1 Corinthians 15:3-4:
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

A suitable wording of your prayer for salvation:

Almost any wording will do provided you cover the main points. It is the intention and the decision that matters. It is to be a lifelong commitment, since you are making a request to God that He makes an eternal commitment to you.
It is not an "I'll try it and see if it suits me" thing, take it seriously, as in life or death.

Dear Heavenly Father, I confess that I am a sinner, and repent of my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for my sins, and was raised on the third day, thereby paying my debt. I now receive Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and Lord. I give myself to you for your purposes. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit to help guide me in your ways.
Thank you Lord,
amen.

Assurance as a believer:

Romans 10: 9-10:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

John 5:24:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 20:31:
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

1 John 5:13:
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

If you have prayed the prayer for salvation, keep an expectant attitude, for God to make changes in your attitude and life for the better. Sometimes the "devil?" or some bad character will try to fill your mind with negative thoughts, and undo the decision you have made, so be on guard to prevent that. Sometimes it is a friend who tries to get you back into the "old ways", or criticism from work mates, but remember that even Jesus had a lot of criticism and lies to contend with, and also death. If you are in one of the societies that is full of hatred for Christians and Jews, you will need to be very careful in finding other Christians.

Read up on the whys and wherefores of your life here.
In the beginning. A complete explanation of your purpose, and for the world, and why it matters.

God has a purpose for creating us for our good and His eternal glory because of His grace.

The same verses in their context, listed below:-

All are Sinners:

Romans 3 v22-26:

22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Romans 3:v9-12:
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

God's remedy for Sin:

Romans 6:v20-23:
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 1:9-13:

9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

1 Corinthians 15:1-8:
1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

God Loves You:

John 3:14-21:
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Romans 5:8-12:
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

All may be Saved now:

Revelation 3:19-21:
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Romans 10:9-15:
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 ¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Assurance as a believer:

Romans 10: 8-10:
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

John 5:20-24:
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

1 John 5:10-15:
10 ¶ He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14 ¶ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

John 20:29-31:
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
