The grace of God and the Apostate Church

Muslims say Abraham was a Muslim and the start of their religion, they do not accept Abraham's faith and creator, the God of the Old and New Testaments. The Bible declares that "You shall not murder" but world wide Muslims make it a standard practice of murdering Jews and Christians, and killing, and of suicide bombing even Muslims of the same faith, ie; Sunni Shiite or other. If you are a Bible believing and reading Christian, you should know the two main spiritual powers, the God who created and loves us, and Lucifer, now called Satan who hates us, just out of spite, because Satan and his team cannot go to heaven, but eventually into the "Lake of Fire several options given", [Revelation Ch.20:v10 and Ch.21:v 8, and other references] while we still have the option of going to Heaven if we accept the salvation offer Jesus has made. Satan is a liar and a murderer from the beginning. People who call themselves Satan worshipers don't go around murdering people, they have their meetings quietly, and call on familiar spirits. Muslims, as can be seen on the News, murdering people by the thousands, even lining up Christians for the news media and slitting their throats and beheading them, as a testament to their intentions for everyone who does not become a Muslim. If you become "like the one you worship" then which of the two spiritual powers are they worshiping? The Vatican is seriously wrong in their estimates of the Moslems, probably because of the Papal history of viewing Inquisitions, massacres, crusades and indulgences as normal, and as Rome's godly mission, (but that is not for the creator God who loves us and desires that we be saved into Heaven, who commands that "you shall not murder" .

In A.D. 593 Pope Gregory 1st. had first proposed the unbiblical (but ultimately very profitable) idea that there was a place called "purgatory" in which the spirits of the dead suffered in order to be purged of their sins and fully delivered from "the debt of eternal punishment". This fabrication was declared to be a Church dogma by the Council of Florence in 1439 and remains an important part of Roman Catholicism today. (p187)

Among the popes who followed Nicholas on Peter's alleged throne were some whose evil was beyond imagination. Von Dollinger says of Paul II, Sixtus IV, Innocent VIII, and Alexander VI that each tried "to exceed the vices of his predecessor". . . . . . . . .
Sixtus IV (1471-84), who had licensed Rome's brothels for an annual fee and taxed the clergy for their mistresses, invented an even more ingenious method of filling the Church's coffers. It would be used by the Popes after him to full advantage. Sixtus decided that he, as Christ's Vicar, could apply indulgences to the dead as well as to the living. It was a novel idea which no one had thought of before, and one which turned out to be very profitable.
What surviving relative could refuse to purchase the release of a deceased mother, father, aunt, uncle, or child from the tortures of purgatory? One marvels that anyone would take the word of such an evil pope, but Sixtus was no worse than many others, and after all, evil or not, he was Christ's vicar and the successor of Peter, was he not?

He was not, and I am sure that if the real Peter could have confronted Sixtus he would have sent him straight to eternal damnation.

As soon as you die your Book is closed, it records whether or not you are "Saved", and what you did, and the records cannot be changed. If you are not saved you will be judged at the "Great White Throne judgement, after Jesus has reigned for a thousand years. Purchasing a "release from purgatory" from such an evil anti-God Church is a total waste of money, and brings condemnation on you for believing in it.

Revelation Ch20: v11 - 15. "Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

If you are doing something to earn points towards your salvation, doing good works, giving to good causes, praying to other than God the creator in Jesus' name, saying the Rosary, having a Mass said for you, or a departed, or anything that you think helps towards securing your salvation and entry into Heaven then you are condemning yourself, because you didn't believe and trust in the completed work of Jesus on the cross. Also you have greatly insulted Jesus by saying, by your belief, that Jesus should have told you that you would have to work for salvation, so don't insult Jesus, his work was complete for everyone, just accept the completely free salvation. It is free but it has costs as you are Jesus' emissary to draw others to Jesus so if you are already doing this sort of thing, but haven't accepted Jesus as saviour, then it doesn't count towards your standing in Heaven, and does not help you to get into Heaven, so take the free gift of Salvation as soon as possible, even at the last moment. Once you are saved good deeds can count towards your rewards in heaven, but never towards your salvation.

John Ch.3 v14, 15, "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life".
v:16. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
v17: For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
v18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
V36 "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him".

In the Old Testament Moses gave the Jews Ten Commandments to keep but they couldn't keep them for long, they were worshiping a Golden Calf by the time Moses came down the mountain. Jesus brought grace and gave us free salvation, and set us free from the LAW, replacing it with "Love your neighbour as yourself" love the person but not their sins. If you have not accepted Jesus as Lord you are still under the law, and you cannot keep it, as breaking just one part is as breaking the whole, [just as breaking one link in a chain under load, breaks the whole].

Of all who have established main line religions Jesus is the only one still alive, and will still be alive in a thousand years and onwards, and still leader of the faith. Jesus has to judge everyone for their life on earth, and decide their fate, so he has to let everyone have free choice so the judgement will be true, as we will each show by our life and belief just what our character is, and if we are suitable to enter heaven, or would be a nuisance and trouble maker in Heaven. Basically we judge ourselves by our character and beliefs, so that Jesus doesn't have to.

Jesus will not allow himself to be put on the same level with anybody else, in this the Freemasons (and many others) are wrong as they put any leaders, gods, gurus etc as all being equal with Jesus, putting a curse on themselves for the insult.

As we are now drawing near to the end of the "play" God has written for the world, with prophesies all the way through to show that we are on track as each is fulfilled, and where he has told us of the rather horrific end that wraps up 6000 years of man's rule of life in this world, to be followed by 1000 years of proper rule by Jesus himself. We need to take care not to be involved in the emerging "Apostate Church" that tries to combine all religions into one big conglomerate, under one leader, and may well claim to be "Christian" so as to include the many denominations that have already turned away from God. The hierarchy of a surprising number have declared that they don't believe in the resurrection, don't believe Jesus could have paid for our sins, even don't believe in life after death or heaven, and of course refuse to even think of hell or the lake of fire, or Rev 14: v9-11 burning sulphur (brimstone), even though Jesus mentioned them several times.

Matthew 13:v49, 50; "This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Note there is no death, ever, never!

People in churches that have already settled into a pleasant little huddle with nice pleasant little talks, set 5 minute sermons for each week, are easy pickings for the Apostate Church, as the whole denomination will probably merge, as the members had not been taught about salvation and what things to avoid, but only "nice little bits to make them feel they knew about God" but without knowing Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Many mainline Churches have given up on teaching about "salvation", that Genesis is true, that there is eternal damnation etc because it is upsetting and divisive. The divisive forces came about when the Churches started accepting evolution and great ages, and didn't bother to make scientific checks of the religious assumptions of the evolutionists.

We were in the Anglican / Episcopalian Church and nothing was taught about salvation being only direct from Jesus, warnings of hell not contemplated, the gifts of the Holy Spirit ignored, the Vicar didn't know about the Holy Spirit. People in a number of common churches have not had proper teaching so have no defence when being enticed into a cult, or later when the "Trading Mark" of the beast comes and they have to choose between the "Mark with eternal damnation" or "death including eternity with Jesus" many will choose the Mark because they don't know the truth about eternal damnation, it wasn't taught at their church.

The Apostate Church cannot be a Christian church as it must put others as equal to Jesus, or leave Jesus out in the cold, which it already does by saying that the "membership of the Church is the only way you can be saved into heaven" a claim common to all cults, ie: membership, and revering a leader as higher authority than Jesus, as opposed to a relationship with Jesus.

For Christians, essentials:-

(1) Jesus is the Son of God the creator of heaven and earth, eternally existent, was from eons ago, will always be, and that:.
(2) Jesus has paid for our sins and wrongful actions, by dying for us on the cross, and that:
(3) Jesus gives us free entry into heaven if we fully accept his offer, because we cannot possibly merit it or earn it, and that:
(4) there is life in heaven after death, for bona fide believers.

These things are essential and must always remain in our belief.
Other beliefs cannot accept this, so we cannot be joined to them.

The Apostate Church can easily be recognised because it will be trying to join all beliefs together under it's own control, while claiming to be "Christian" it will be demonically against genuine Christians who refuse to join the Apostate Church because they believe the Bible and see the dangers of turning against God. It will also require that believers must earn salvation by various means, by doing or paying, as if Jesus didn't pay it all, which is a demonic insult to the all sufficiency of Jesus' sacrifice.

If you find that you are in such a church, that seems to be becoming, or is, the Apostate Church, you should seriously research its past, to see how well it has protected the freedom of Bible believing Christians, promoted understanding of the Bible, encouraging adherents to read and study it, and has it always had impeccable moral standards in its leadership, or continuous bad leadership. Occasionally even some good ones fall under demonic attack. Has it been involved in attacks against the freedom of Christians or Jews in the past, to force them to become that particular denomination? Where it is the major denomination is it attacking smaller denominations who believe the Bible, learn from the Bible directly, and refuse to join the Apostate Church?

Such an Apostate Church probably has a "hate list" of those Christian beliefs, or denominations that believe and read the Bible themselves and have a good understanding of God's word, or even of books that are diametrically opposed to the cult. This would be a good place to go to find out the truth, but you have to carefully check that they do actually believe what the Bible says, as there are some who distort what it says to fit it to their narrow minded beliefs, usually such ones have a relatively recent founder, or leader, whom they revere, instead of the original founder, Jesus himself. Jesus must be the head, and you pray to God in Jesus' name, never to a dead person, they cannot answer, but demons might, with thoughts, words, or images that seem valid, but lead in the wrong direction, probably leading to worshipping of a place, statue or image. Exodus, Ch.20:v4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or in the earth beneath or in the waters below. ⁵ You shall not bow down to them or worship them; . . . NIV. (Nor honor a person above the authority of the words of the Bible).

Deuteronomy Ch:10, v 17:- "For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

INDULGENCES.

Tetzel's sale of Indulgences was the occasion of Luther's break with Rome. According to Romanist teaching, purgatory is very much the same as Hell, only it does not last as long; but all have to pass through it. But the Pope claimed to have the power to lessen, or altogether remit, these sufferings; and this prerogative belonged exclusively to the Pope. It began with popes Pascal I (817-24) and John VIII (972_92). Papal Indulgences were found to be exceedingly profitable, and soon came into general use. They were offered as inducement to go on crusades, or wars against heretics, or against some King, whom the Pope wished to punish, or to Inquisitors, or to those who brought faggots for the burning of a heretic, or SOLD for MONEY. Pope Sixtus IV (1476), was the first to apply them to souls already in Purgatory. Indulgences were farmed out, to be retailed. Thus selling the privilege to "sin" became one of the main sources of Papal Revenue.

In 1517 John Tetzel came through Germany selling certificates, signed by the pope, offering pardon of all sins, to buyers and their friends, without confession, repentance, penance, or absolution by the priest. He said to the people, "as soon as your coin clinks in the chest the souls of your friends will rise out of Purgatory into Heaven." This horrified Luther.
On October 31, 1517, Luther posted on the Church door in Wittenberg 95 theses, nearly all of which related to indulgences.

Asking for an indulgence is like going to the chief judge and saying "I want to murder Joe Blogs, how much do I have the pay for an indulgence, so that if I am brought to court for murder, you will dismiss the case".
Asking for an indulgence clearly shows that you have no intention of following God's outline for good behaviour, morals and social respect, so that you would be attracting others to God and to Jesus.
Basically getting an indulgence puts a curse on yourself because you knew it was wrong in God's sight and you are taking a deliberate thoughtful stand against God's laws, thumbing your nose at God. This is different from a "spur of the moment" slip-up which was not planned.
Numbers, Ch:15: v30 "But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or alien, blasphemes the Lord, and that person must be cut off from his people. Because he has despised the Lord's word and broken his commands, that person must surely be cut off; his guilt remains on him."

Being a member of a church does not make you a Christian, does nothing at all for your salvation and entry into heaven, so be careful about the beliefs being taught, always checking them against the Bible, and against historical records where possible. There are many cults that claim to be christian, but are obsessed with power and control over people and governments, and amassing wealth from adherents.

Some have their own "special" versions of the Bible, with a few words changed, or more. One I read part of was deliberately written in a very confusing way, and I couldn't stand more than 2 pages of it. Some "Bibles" are on the market that are re-written to suit some agenda, such as "Mother God" instead of Father. Some even have "Allah" instead of God, an ultimate insult to God, and cursing you in the process. Allah does not have a son, but the real God sent his Son to rescue us from hell.
The NIV and New King James are good ones.

In effect before creating the earth God wrote a play as most playwrights would today, and we are in a 7000 year long play, but to God who is eternal it is just a brief interlude. You are free to choose what type of character to play, within limits of what others are doing and chance accidents etc. In the end God will judge you and take into Heaven those who accepted his offer of free undeserved salvation.
Those who don't have the revelations of the Bible/Torah will be judged by what understanding they had.

I already knew that the Roman Catholic Church was going to be the Apostate Church because of the efforts by Popes to combine all christian churches and Eastern Religions, Gurus and even the Muslims into one all-encompassing multi-religion one faith "church".
After reading "A woman Rides the Beast" by Dave Hunt, I realised that it has always been the Apostate Church and a demonically inspired cult, right from its start, by the decree of emperor Justinian recognising the pope as the "head of the Holy Churches" in 533 AD when it split from the Church.

It has sent billions of people to eternal damnation because it commanded worship of a corrupt leader and stopped people from reading the Bible themselves lest they find out that salvation is only from Jesus on his terms of accepting his offer of free unmerited salvation, and keeping Jesus' commands, releasing us from the letter on the Law of the ten inscribed on stone by the finger of God, being so deliberately exacting that we cannot keep them, so must seek another way, which is provided by Jesus. (Exodus, Ch:20)

From the record of all the "Inquisitions" setup by Pope Gregory1X in (1227-41) and continued through the centuries, murdering millions at a time, usually Bible believing Christians, or Jews, the Roman Catholic Church is clearly anti-Christian. They are still persecuting other beliefs in South America, particularly in Brazil, and in all countries demand that true christians stop proselytising Roman Catholics.

Pope Nicholas 1 (858-67) encouraged the King of Bulgaria, a new convert to what he thought was "Christianity," to force Rome's religion upon his subjects:
"I glorify you for having retained your authority by putting to death those wandering sheep who refuse to enter the fold; and . . . congratulate you upon having opened the kingdom of heaven to the people submitted to your rule.
A king need not fear to command massacres, when these will retain his subjects in obedience, or cause them to submit to the faith of Christ; and God will reward him in this world, and in eternal life, for these murders."

Where can you find that murderous ethic in the Bible? This is not the Faith of Christ but of demonic origin.

Jesus told Peter to put away the sword. You shall not murder is the sixth Commandment, and though we have been released from the Letter of the Law, by Jesus, they still apply to our lifestyle, and to all the Popes down through history, they have no right to over-rule what Jesus taught and instructed, because Jesus is Lord of lords and King of kings and finally judge of all mankind by his standards. Peter was never a deacon, or higher appointment, in either Rome or Jerusalem. Peter = small stone. On this Rock, = bolder that Peter had just spoken ie: "you are the Christ" is the rock the Church is to be built upon.

Perhaps the best explanation for the plight of Roman Catholics is a quote from Halley's Handbook:-
The Papacy is not the Church, but a Political Machine that got control of the Church, and, by assumed prerogatives, interposed itself between God and God's people.

The Papacy and Tolerance

Pope Clement XIII declared that the Toleration Edict of Nantes whereby "liberty of conscience is granted to everybody is the most cursed thing in the world." Innocent X and his successors have condemned, rejected, annulled and protested against the Toleration articles of the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia. Leo XII condemned religious freedom. Pius VIII denounced liberty of conscience. Leo XIII endorsed the decree of Pius IX. However much Roman Priests in our own country may cry "Tolerance," the Official "Infallible" Law of the System to which they belong is against it. Romanists are in favor of Tolerance ONLY in countries where they are in the Minority. The Papacy has FOUGHT Religious Freedom at every step, (it would be a financial disaster for the pope).
(p784). So much for being "Christian" when the Papacy wage war against God at every opportunity.

What a breath of fresh air was the USA Constitution of Religious Freedom, no wonder USA became a great nation. But now intolerance is back in force, if you don't accept everyone else's view as better than your own you are in trouble. The USA is going down the same path as led to the French Revolution, and will reap a similar destruction.

Great Controversy.

I have quoted heavily from "The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan", original text of 1888, because it is a real eye-opener to the French Revolution, and to USA using a different method, but headed down the same path and about to reap the same horrific results. President Obama and those in power are doing their utmost to remove all the benefits of God from society, and extend government power to absolute control, and impoverish the nation, and I believe, to force vile belief and lifestyles upon the nation.

In no land had the spirit of enmity against Christ been more strikingly displayed. In no country had the truth encountered more bitter and cruel opposition. In the persecution which France had visited upon the confessors of the Gospel, she had crucified Christ in the person of His disciples.
Century after century the blood of the saints had been shed. While the Waldenses laid down their lives upon the mountains of Piedmont "for the Word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ," similar witness to the truth had been borne by their brethren, the Albigenses of France. In the days of the Reformation, its disciples had been put to death with horrible tortures. King and nobles, high-born women and delicate maidens, the pride and chivalry of the nation, had feasted their eyes upon the agonies of the martyrs of Jesus. The brave Huguenots, battling for those rights which the human heart holds most sacred, had poured out their blood on many a hard-fought field. The Protestants were counted as outlaws, a price was set upon their heads. and they were hunted down like wild beasts.

"These atrocities were not committed during the Dark Ages, but in the brilliant era when science was cultivated, and letters flourished; when the divines of the court and the capital were learned and eloquent men, who greatly affected the graces of meekness and charity."


But the blackest in the black catalogue of crime, most horrible among the fiendish deeds of all the dreadful centuries, was the St. Bartholomew Massacre. The world still recalls with shuddering horror the scenes of that most cowardly and cruel onslaught. The king of France, urged on by Romish priests and prelates, lent his sanctions the dreadful work. The great bell of the palace, tolling at dead of night, was the signal for the slaughter. Protestants by thousands, sleeping quietly in their homes, trusting to the plighted honor of their king, were dragged forth without warning, and murdered in cold blood.

Satan in the person of the Roman zealots, led the van. As Christ was the invisible leader of His people from Egyptian bondage, so was Satan the unseen leader of his subjects in this horrible work of multiplying martyrs. For seven days the massacre was continued in Paris, the first three with inconceivable fury. And it was not confined to the city itself, but by special order of the king extended to all provinces and towns where Protestants were found. Neither age nor sex was respected. neither the innocent babe nor the man of gray hairs was spared. Noble and peasant , old and young, mother and child, were cut down together. Throughout France the butchery continued for two months. Seventy thousand of the very flower of the nation perished.

The pope, Gregory XIII, received the news of the fate of the Huguenots with unbounded Joy. The wish of his heart had been gratified, and Charles IX, was now his favourite son. Rome rang with rejoicings. The guns of the castle of St. Angelo gave forth joyous salute; the bells sounded from every tower; bonfires blazed throughout the night; and Gregory, attended by his cardinals and priests, led the magnificent procession to the church of St. Louis, where the cardinal of Lorraine chanted a Te Deum. The cry of the dying host in France was gentle harmony to the court of Rome. A medal was struck to commemorate the glorious massacre, a picture, which still exists in the Vatican, was painted, representing the chief events of St. Bartholomew. The pope eager to show his gratitude to Charles for his dutiful conduct, sent him a Golden Rose; and from the pulpits of Rome eloquent preachers celebrated Charles, Catherine, and the Guises as the new founders of the papal church."

The same master-spirit that urged on the St. Bartholomew Massacre led also in the scenes of the (French) Revolution. Jesus Christ was declared to be an imposter, and the rallying cry of the French infidels was, "Crush the Wretch," meaning Christ. (Their impression of Christ was only the tyrannical rule of the popes, as those who had and believed the Bible, had been massacred with fury and hatred by orders of the Popes, for 250 years) Heaven -daring blasphemy and abominable wickedness went hand in hand, and the basest of men, the most abandoned monsters of cruelty and vice, were the most highly exalted. In all this, supreme homage was paid to Satan; while Christ, in His characteristics of truth, purity, and unselfish love, was crucified.

"The atheistical power that ruled in France during the Revolution and the reign of terror, did wage such a war upon the Bible as the world had never witnessed. The word of God was prohibited by the national assembly. Bibles were collected and publically burned with every possible manifestation of scorn. The law of God was trampled under foot. The institutions of the Bible were abolished. The weekly rest-day was set aside, and in its stead every tenth day was devoted to revelling and blasphemy. Baptism and communion were prohibited.

The fear of God was said to be so far from the beginning of wisdom that it was the beginning of folly. All religious worship was prohibited, except that of liberty and the country. "The constitutional bishop of Paris was brought forward to play the principal part in the most impudent and scandalous farce ever enacted in the face of a national representation. . . . He was brought forward in full procession, to declare to the convention that the religion which he had taught so many years was, in every respect, a piece of priestcraft, which had no foundation either in history or in sacred truth. He disowned in solemn and explicit terms the existence of the Deity, to whose worship he had been consecrated, and devoted himself in future to the homage of liberty, equality, virtue, and morality. He then laid on the table his episcopal decorations, and received a fraternal embrace from the president of the convention. Several apostate priests followed the example of this prelate."

After France had renounced the worship of the living God, "the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity," it was only a little time till she descended to degrading idolatry, by the worship of the Goddess of Reason, in the person of a profligate woman. (Represented by a dancing girl from the opera.)

It was popery that had begun the work which atheism was completing. The policy of Rome had wrought out those conditions, social, political, and religious, that were hurrying France on to ruin. A writer speaking of the horrors of the revolution, says: "Those excesses are in truth to be charged upon the throne and the (RC) church. In strict justice they are to be charged upon the church (not the Bible believing Church). Popery had poisoned the minds of kings against the Reformation, as an enemy of the crown, an element of discord that would be fatal to the peace and harmony of the nation. It was the genius of Rome that by this means inspired and direst cruelty and the most galling oppression which proceeded from the throne, to make it appear that the king was responsible.

The spirit of liberty went with the Bible. Wherever the Bible was received, the minds of the people were awakened. They began to cast off the shackles that had held them bond-slaves of ignorance, vice, and superstition. They began to think and act as men. Monarchs saw it, and trembled for their despotism.

Rome was not slow to inflame their jealous fears. Said the pope to the regent of France in 1523: "This mania (Protestantism: true belief from reading the Bible) will not only destroy religion (the pope's), but all principalities, nobilities, laws, orders, and ranks besides. " A few years later a papist dignitary warned the king, "If you wish to preserve your sovereign rights intact; if you wish to keep nations submitted to you in tranquillity, manfully defend the Catholic faith, and subdue all its enemies by your arms." And theologians appealed to the prejudices of the people by declaring that the Protestant doctrine "entices men away to novelties and folly, it robs the king of the devoted affection of his subjects, and devastates both church and state." Thus Rome succeeded in arraying France against the Reformation. "It was to uphold the throne, preserve the nobles, and maintain the laws, that the sword of persecution was first unsheathed on France."

Little did the rulers of the land foresee the results of that fateful policy. The teaching of the Bible would have implanted in the minds and hearts of the people those principles of justice, temperance, truth, equity, and benevolence which are the very corner-stone of a nations prosperity. "Righteousness exalteth a nation. " Thereby "the throne is established. "Proverbs 14:34: 16::12. He who fears God will honor the king in the exercise of all just and legitimate authority. But unhappy France prohibited the Bible, and banned its disciples. Thousands upon thousands found safety in flight; and this continued for two hundred and fifty years after the opening of the Reformation. But a blind and inexorable bigotry chased from her soil every teacher of virtue, every champion of order, every honest defender of the throne; It said to the men who would have made their country a 'renown and glory' in the earth, Chose which you will have, a stake or exile. At last the ruin of the State was complete; there remained no more conscience to be proscribed; no more religion to be dragged to the stake; no more patriotism to be chased into banishment" "with the flight of the Huguenots a general decline settled upon France. Flourishing manufacturing cities fell into decay; fertile districts returned to their native wilderness; intellectual dullness and moral declension succeeded a period of unwonted progress. And the revolution, with all its horrors, was the dire result. Terrible were the results of her submission to the controlling power of Rome.

The Jesuits alone flourished in the decaying nation, and ruled with dreadful tyranny over churches and schools, the prisons and the galleys. Louis XV, to the warnings of his councilors replied "Try to make things go on as long as I am likely to live; after my death it may be as it will." He saw the evils but did not have the power or courage to buck the power of the popes in Rome. Though the French Revolution banned the Bible, they later tolerated it, but made the mistake of letting the popes, who for centuries had been the problem, with their murdering of any true Bible believing Christians, back into society. "For professing faith contrary to the teachings of the Church of Rome, history records the martyrdom of more than one hundred million people. " (p 256, Great Controversy.) These were true Bible believing Christians, that is why they would not turn from God and His Word, to join a vicious murderous cult.


In AD 533 Emperor Justinian recognised the pope as the "head of the Holy Churches". (Code of Justinian, Book 1, title 1, section 4). Pages 288 to 313 of The Great Controversy are on the Revolution and are seen as fulfilling Daniel's Prophesy of 1260 years from the defeat of the Ostrogoths in the siege of Rome in 538, which left the stage clear for the pope, which would terminate in 1798. At that time the French army entered Rome and made the pope a prisoner, and he died in exile, and a great cry was heard "Catholicism is dead", the head of beast was killed but still it revived. But this is a different subject and takes a lot of research. Get the book, Great Controversy, p293.

Forerunners of the Reformation

Albigenses or Carthari. A majority of population in Southern France, Northern Spain and very numerous in Northern Italy. Preached Biblical Christianity and against the Pope. Pope Innocent III ordered a Crusade in 1208. A bloody war of extermination followed, town after town was put to the sword and the inhabitants murdered without distinction of age or sex; in 1229 the Inquisition was established and within a hundred years the Albigenses were utterly rooted out.
And still the popes have the nerve to claim to be "Christian".
Waldenses: Southern France and Northern Italy. Same God given beliefs ; repressed by the Inquisition, except in alpine valleys. Now a leading Protestant body in Italy. (AD 1924 when the book was written)

John Wyclif 1324-1384b Advocated peoples right to read the Bible, opposed existence of Popes.

John Huss 1369-1415 fearless preacher condemned indulgences burned alive at the stake and his followers, a large part of the Bohemian population were almost extirpated by a crusade ordered by the Pope.

Renewed knowledge of the sources of Christian doctrine revealed the vast difference between the native simplicity of the Gospel and the ecclesiastical fabric that professed to be founded upon it. The reformation owed its being to the direct contact of the mind with the scriptures, and it resulted in the emancipation of the human mind from priestly and Papal authority.

There was widespread discontent with the corruption of the Church and the clergy. The people had grown restive under the cruelty of the Inquisition. Civil rulers had grown tired of Papal interference in governmental matters. And "at the blast of Luthers trumpet Germany, England, Scotland and other countries startled like giants out of sleep".

There are a lot more blood curdling accounts of religious wars and Papal wars to exterminate genuine Christian teaching, but if you haven't got the message by now, you probably wouldn't, even if I added a few pages of actual history.

The present pope's authority hangs on all the false claims of previous popes, the claim of "infallibility" of succession to Peter, etc, so he cannot change his spots.

Read all of John's chapters in the Bible and note carefully how to be "saved" and what will destroy your belief. Accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, and read up on what Jesus said. The Bible is true, so eventually start at the beginning and you will find that Genesis is the best explanation of why we are here and what our aims should be.
