Preamble
Many scientists go to great lengths to theorise and make long discussions on how if the distant galaxies were created on day four, Verse 16 of Genesis Ch1, then how could the light have come from billions of light years distant and be here so soon. There are books and DVDs that try to explain this, but none seem to come close to an answer. Because Christians claim that the Bible claims that galaxies were all created on that day, that the Bible must be wrong, as it is impossible, so they go with what they can see, and thinking that they are wise and following science, they believe assumptions about ancient past that cannot be proved scientifically, but are supported by many just-so stories. For this reason it is important to get to the truth of creation week, and the legitimacy of the Bible. I take the days of Genesis Ch.1 as normal days as each is specified as having an evening and morning, making G-ds intentions clear, that there cannot be any time intervals inserted into that week.
It seems that some believe that G-d came into existence just in time to create the earth, then all the galaxies on day four. In their view "G-d always will be" means He will be for trillions of years, that we will be with Him, but "G-d always was", means only a few thousand years in the past. If G-d always was, it was trillions of years, equal measure to our years, in the past, more than you can imagine, so what could He have been doing in all that time? Has He got anything to show for it? I am not supporting evolution but taking the Bible as indicating approximately a 6000 year history of earth.
Biblical account
Genesis Ch.1 is about the creation of our solar system, and us, not about the galaxies. So when we are told to look beyond the earth to sun moon and planets it usually says "He made the stars also", presumably meaning galaxies beyond our solar system. It does not specify when He made them, but as God always was He has had trillions of years in which to make them. We should not add our assumption to the Bible that, because in the account of day four, for the first time drawing our attention beyond the solar system, referring to distant galaxies, that they were made on day four. Adam wasn't there till day six and the account we have was written by Moses. God knows the galaxies all by name. If after creating our solar system he could create a thousand solar systems a second, how many would not have been created by the end of day four? Why do many show clear evidence of collisions involving debris spread over hundreds of light years, that would take far beyond ten thousand years to scatter. It would be disingenuous if God claimed this happened entirely during day fours 24 hours.
In an email reply I received from a scientist who is supportive of change in the speed of light as the explanation for the light being here already he commented:- "Genesis was not written by Moses. There are too many writing styles involved. The evidence is actually pretty clear that it is a series of tablets collated by him with some editorial insertions. The first editorial insertion is 'stars also' -- which is all that is in the ancient Hebrew. Moses lived in a time when many stars were associated with gods and said to be either the gods themselves or created by them. Moses was quite determined to correct that, so the insertion was made"
If this is so then with "stars also" removed from the text there is no reason in Genesis 1: v16 to assume that all the galaxies were formed on day four, as G-d always was, and he had made them.
Exodus 20:11, "For in six days God made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them," This can be just about creating our solar system with its heavens, waters above, expanse (where birds fly) etc. The "sea and all that is in them" seems to tie all of it to the earth, and solar system.
Job 38:7; "while the morning stars sang together and all the angels (the sons of G-d) shouted for joy?" This must be taken in context, which is: V4: "Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me if you understand." Again this is only about our solar system, the morning stars and all the angels already existed, as they were singing as the initial foundations were being laid, presumably on Day One, perhaps also in anticipation the day before.
All of Job Chapters 38 and 39 are about our solar system except for three verses, demanding answers from Job who knows nothing about creating or controlling galaxies.
v31 "Can you bind the beautiful Pleiades? Can you loose the cords of Orion?"
v32 "Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with it's cubs?
v33 "Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up G-d's dominion over earth?"
So far in all this there is no reason to assume that the galaxies were created on day four, but that they should be taken as created a long time ago, according to their apparent ages, or distance. This is not supporting the "Big Bang, great ages, no G-d, evolutionary model", but if G-d always was, then there were great ages with G-d in control, and he was creating whatever he wanted to.
An objection
An objection was "In Genesis 1:1 we find that time, space, and mass were all created from nothing. Without mass and space, which we know were created in Genesis 1:1, time has no meaning."
How do we know that time, mass and space for the entire cosmos were created on Day One, isn't this just about creating our solar system? There is no specific mention of anything beyond.
Genesis Ch1; v1. "In the beginning (of the story of us and our solar system?) G-d created the heavens (our heavens?) and the earth." The rest of the chapter, in fact 50 Chapters, are strictly about us.
Ps. 90:v2. "from everlasting to everlasting you are G-d" Meaning looking backwards to infinity and forwards towards infinity G-d always was, is now, and always will be. So there always was time and space, and G-d, and then mass whenever G-d created it.
The Tadpole Galaxy (UGC 10214), is a spiral that has been disrupted by a collision with a smaller galaxy. The interaction has drawn out a tail of material extending 390,000 light-years from the Tadpole, clearly requiring timescales well in excess of a few thousand years. If the debris in the tail left behind, and with the Tadpole moving away, for example: if they are separating at one hundredth the speed of light, it would take about four hundred million years to form the tail so far.
It's no wonder that many go with the ages shown by the stars, rather than the common interpretation of Genesis. It's our misinterpretation of the Bible that drives people away, as they prefer what they can see with telescopes, to the ancient written Word.
By reading the Bible as He made the stars (beyond our solar system) also", because he made them a long time ago, then everything fits, the light from the most distant galaxies was here already, before the earth was created. The solar system is very young, about six thousand years, and beyond is very old, millions to trillions of years. This matches well with all observations, and does no harm to the Biblical text, just corrects our assumption whereby we force-fitted all God's eternity past into day four, because of our assumptions. This would enable people and even cosmologists to accept the Bible's six thousand years for the earth, because many things show it is young, and also trillions of years for the galaxies beyond. All universe expansion, distance, radiation, light, and red shift remain "true?" as presently observed, only our understanding is changed.
By not adding the usual assumption that all galaxy creation happened on day four, there is time, trillions of trillions of years, for starlight to have traveled, at the present speed and frequency of light, 299,729.458 Km/second, from the most distant galaxies, through the space where the earth would eventually be put, so there never was a light-time-travel problem. We just imagined it, because we assumed that it happened on day four as a reference to galaxy creation was included in that part of the narrative, without specifying a time.
Since God always was, that includes trillions of years past, just as we expect to be with him for trillions of years future, then what was he doing in the past? Creating galaxies, and also beings in heaven by the trillions, a third of whom have been rejected, seems to be a reasonable answer.
Our God is a creating God, always was, but at present is anticipating enjoying the fruits of his creation when all evil has been purged.
Addendum
All my reasoning is on the basis of gravity and matter such as in the "Big Bang" model, but not the BB itself, as that has many insoluble problems.
"Big Bang Theory Busted" By 33 Top Scientists
There is an alternative explanation to the BB that explains everything, or so the proponents claim, except that some major points cannot be explained, so I don't see any need to change what I have written above.
In the proposed plasma universe, deep space is permeated with giant filaments of electrons and ions. The plasma strands are
thought to be real, physical entities. It is
further proposed that these filaments twist together in space due to electromagnetic forces. Some of their vast energy is then converted into matter, and new galaxies are the eventual result This plasma "theory of everything" seeks to explain almost every cosmic detail. Thus the intricate spiral arms of galaxies are said to reveal further interactions of the plasma filaments. Since galaxies contain 100 billion stars each and are 100 thousand light years across, the proposed plasma strands are clearly of immense energy and size. The Tadpole Galaxy (UGC 10214), could be explained as forming very quickly in the Plasma theory, once it can explain the formation of stars. This could be seen as creating everything by electromagnetic forces, without the need for G-d, but in the end, life cannot happen without the specialised knowledge and ability to assemble purified chemicals and imbue them with life, so G-d is still essential in creating us, and His Word is true.
The plasma universe
assumes that electric and magnetic forces are dominant in space instead of gravity. However, it has not been shown that electromagnetism is capable of forming and shaping galaxies, even with unlimited time. The plasma universe fully accepts all aspects of slow stellar evolution, without reservation. In fact, hundreds of billions of years are assumed to be available for stellar processes. A workable mechanism for star and galaxy formation from interacting plasma gases is
not known. But, of course, such details were never understood for the Big Bang either!
At first hearing, the plasma theory is attractive in that it nicely avoids some of the Big Bang problems, such as gas will not condense to form gas giants or stars, and over 95% of the material of the universe cannot be detected, ie; dark matter and dark energy. The Big Bang model has no energy source for the rapid expansion of space and matter. Plasma could supply a new mechanisms for red shift of starlight not being due to velocity away from us, thus the plasma theory challenges even the basic assumption of an expanding universe.
From "The Solar System Asteroids and Comets"
(About our Solar System)
"Both short- and long-period comets are a confirmation that God created them thousands of years ago, not millions or billions. Comets lose mass every time they pass through the inner solar system. We can estimate the mass loss from observations of the comets tail. Based on this rate, and the mass of the nucleus, a typical comet can last no more than about 100,000 years. Some comets disintegrate much faster."

Closing comment of asteroids
"It boggles the mind to contemplate the possibility of billions of solar systems, each with treasures far different from our own. We are only at the very beginning of our exploration of God’s universe. Who can guess what undiscovered gems the Lord has placed among the stars for our delight and His glory?"
